Neurosurgery partnership in Tanzania

For over three years, the Weill Cornell Medicine Tanzania Neurosurgery Project, the Brainlab Social Program and the Right.Brain Foundation e.V. have been working together at MOI. The initial focus was on spinal procedures and has since been successfully expanded to include cranial indications.
The course was organized by Prof. Dr. Roger Härtl in cooperation with MOI, Weill Cornell Medicine in New York and the North American Spine Society (NASS). The goal was to help the team in Tanzania strengthen their existing structures and sustainably develop their clinical skills. On site, Brainlab colleagues worked closely with the local team with a focus on continuous exchange and knowledge transfer.
So far, 65 spinal and 29 cranial procedures have been performed using navigation. The technology supports preoperative planning, optimizes workflows in the operating room and enables more precise execution of complex cases under real clinical conditions.
This project is part of the Brainlab Social Program's mission to make modern neurosurgery accessible worldwide through collaborative partnerships, continuity and local ownership.
